About Tom:
If you ever felt alone, overwhelmed, disconnected, or overall just unsure, therapy is the space for you to take a step back, slow down and debrief. It is an environment dedicated to you, a space where you’re in control and free to express yourself with no defense or judgement. There is a lot to juggle in your life, from past traumas to future expectations or just daily living, there is only so much one can handle. The brain can be overflowed with thoughts, worries, and concerns, yet it is a limited space that continues to echo those stressors. Therapy is the place to alleviate that weight, lightening your shoulders and giving you the ability to just hit pause. It’s a space that lets you know that it is okay to not be okay.
I view my role as a therapist in terms of a guide. Throughout your journey, I am only there at point A and B, but not in between. The time in our session is dedicated to you, at your pace and on your terms, where I walk alongside you, retracing those steps between the two points. The time I spend with you is time for you to be seen, heard, and understood.
Whether that be current struggles, future anxieties, or haunting past experiences, my role is to reexamine and reevaluate each one of those with you, unraveling all the thoughts, emotions, and beliefs tied to them.
As a first-generation Vietnamese-American and former foster youth, I understand the complexity of mental health through the cultural and trauma-informed lens. Growing up, my identities demonstrate a lot of unexpected changes and transitions; however, developed resilience and adaptation towards those uncertainties. I aim to bring the same strength towards my practice, regaining control of ourselves in unpredictable courses of life. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at California State University, Long Beach, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. I take a CBT and Psychodynamic focused approach, believing a lot of our lives are the intersections of our past experiences and current belief systems. Understanding the events that lead up to who we are today allows for further insight into who we are now and who we can be tomorrow.
If any part of this resonates with you, I’d be honored to connect. Reach out to our Care Coordinator team if you’d like to get started. I’m looking forward to walking this path with you.
