About Zong:

Hi, my name is Zong Yang. I'm happy that you're here.

I am a Master of Social Work student at Columbia University and am pursuing a career in mental health therapy. My deep care for people's safety and wellness was fostered mainly by my experience as a first-generation Hmong American and Queer-identified sibling of four.

My story involves growing up with my three sisters and supporting our parents in navigating a new country in both urban and rural settings. With that said, in my personal life and experience as a domestic and sexual violence advocate, I have witnessed how external factors beyond our control can impact our safety, mental wellness, and sense of self. I believe everyone deserves the right to lead their lives and foster their healing journey in a consensual way to their body, mind, and spirit.

At the heart of my practice, I center on cultivating a safe space through empathy and facilitating a brave space through radical compassion that allows you to explore your own truths and experiences without judgment. Additionally, I aim to support you in finding your own path to growth, moving at a pace that aligns with the needs of your body, mind, and spirit. Along the way, we may share moments of joy and laughter, or simply sit in silence together— and that's perfectly okay.

Lastly, I understand that culture plays a huge role in shaping how we heal. My experience in working with Southeast Asian refugee communities has positioned me to understand that there are factors to keep, innovate, and let go when it comes to culture and healing. I believe that in your own healing, you get to create and decide that for yourself.

Each of our lives is unique and shaped by different nuances. Starting psychotherapy can feel daunting, but through a collaborative process, my goal is to listen, understand, and support you as you lead your own healing journey. At your permission, if you are interested in working with me, please contact our Care Coordinator team, who will assist you with the next steps. I look forward to working with you.
